EUROFIR course in the production and use
of food composition data in
nutrition was held on 5-17 October in
Bratislava Slovak Republic. Dr Nebal from Egypt and dr.
Ousama from Palastine were participated in the coarse from
MENANA, other participants were from different regions of the
world. It was very useful for MENANA to continue advocacy,
communication and coordination with other associations and
organizations. The course was structured around the second
edition of the book 'Food Composition
Data. Production, Management and Use, by Dr H. Greenfield
and Professor D.A.T. Southgate and covered the ways in which
nutritional databases are used; choice and validation of
analytical methods to give nutritionally relevant values; food
and nutrient classification and stages in the production of a
nutrient database. Rules for data documentation as well as
structures for constructing computerized
relational databases. Work forms
used in the course comprised lectures, assignments, excursions,
E-learning and project work in small groups. |
